Water Distribution Operator 

Carefree Water Company is looking for a full-time, permanent Water Distribution Operator.  Our water system has recently expanded and we want you to grow with us.



Under general supervision, performs a variety of semi-skilled and skilled heavy manual work, alone or as a member of a crew, in the construction, maintenance, and repair of water distribution systems or related utility functions.

Incumbent will be required to work stand-by on rotational basis and report to work on a callback basis as needed within a designated time frame.


Examples of Duties

Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Operate and maintain heavy and light equipment
  • Cuts, fits, lays, and repairs water mains
  • Answers questions and inquiries from the general public
  • Responds to emergency calls and situations as required.
  • Performs other related duties as required.


Minimum Qualifications

  • Valid Driver’s license
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Pass a drug screening
  • Within 12 months of employment, incumbent is required to obtain and, thereafter, maintain a valid Arizona Department of Environmental Quality Grade 1 Water Distribution Operator certificate


Knowledge of:

  • Maintenance and construction methods
  • pipefitting and plumbing methods and techniques
  • safety practices in construction
  • water system facilities.


Ability to:

  • Understand and follow written and verbal instructions
  • Maintain records
  • perform continuous heavy physical work safely, including operating various equipment, tools
  • lift/carry/push/pull up to 100 pounds
  • read and work from blueprints, maps, or other technical documents
  • work independently or as a crew member
  • train less experienced personnel.


Working Conditions

Work is outdoors in seasonal climate and weather. Duties may involve muddy conditions for long periods of time during regular work hours and during after hour emergencies. There may be exposure to heavy dust, dirt, vibrations, and noise.



Compensation ranges from $25.00 to $40.00 hourly depending upon ADEQ certifications, qualifications, and experience.
